GMW Polka Dot V                                                           Home

People will occasionally approach us for upgrades or changes to the standard 21 fret model we offer with a Floyd Rose or six point standard bent plate trem. These requests often include an upgrade to 22 frets, or an ebony fretboard. But some upgrades are even more pronounced, including color changes to the base color, a change to a tunomatic bridge, or recessed painted matching rear cavity plates. We've pretty much seen it all except for a change from the traditional pearl bowtie inlays to an alternate fingerboard inlay. But that option is also available upon request.

Therefore, in recognition of what upgrades and options are available from GMW when ordering this model, we've included all of them on this Rhoads V from the GMW Custom Shop with the exception of a color change from the traditional black base/white dot format used by Randy.

Key features on this model include the following upgrades. (Note: The traditional specifications are listed next to each upgrade in parentheses.)

22 frets (21 frets are standard)
Three piece maple neck construction (single piece maple neck is standard)
ebony fingerboard (rosewood fingerboard is standard)
solid pearl block inlays (pearl bowtie inlays are standard)
Gotoh 510 wrap around bridge (recessed Floyd or Gotoh bent plate six point trem are standard)
painted recessed matching rear cavity plates (non-recessed white plastic rear cavity plates are standard)

WHILE THE "TRADITIONAL" BLACK/WHITE POLKA DOT V's ARE WELL KNOWN, OUR V's CAN ALSO BE ORDERED IN ANY DOT/BASE COLOR COMBINATION SUCH AS THE "RED BASE WITH WHITE DOTS" VERSION SHOWN HERE. THE ONLY LIMITATION IS YOUR
IMAGINATION. SO FEEL FREE TO EXPLORE AND EXPERIMENT WITH ALTERNATE DOT AND BASE COLORS TO PERSONALIZE ONE OF THESE CLASSIC MODELS. A SET OF DETAILED AND EXPANSIVE DOT/BASE COLOR SAMPLES WILL BE AVAILABLE SHORTLY.

BELOW IS AN EXCERT FROM “VINTAGE GUITAR MAGAZINE” INTERVIEW WITH ZAKK WYLDE FROM FEBRUARY 23, 2010. FULL INTERVIEW CAN BE FOUND AT:

http://www.vintageguitar.com/features/artists/details.asp?AID=2464

(Q): You're recently scored a couple of Randy Rhoads copy guitars, one a Jackson, one built by GMW Guitar Works in Glendora, California. Is there an endorsement deal in the works?

(ZAKK): When we were in the studio making Mafia and looking at the Randy Rhoads' website, we found the polka dot V made by GMW. My children bought me that one for my birthday, and we went to Pasadena to pick it up. I'm going to use it live... it sounds awesome!

When I first got it, I was out in the garage, wailing on the fiddle, and I called Dime - this was about two weeks before the bullshit went down and said, "Check this out." And I'm wailing on the Floyd, doing divebombs, goin' nuts shreddin'. I said, "Dude, I'm invincible now!" (laughs) He goes, "You sound like the Dimebag, you asshole!" I said, "I know! Better watch it, ya' bastard!"

The Jackson doesn't have a locking nut, so I don't use the whammy all that much. Even Randy didn't use it that much. But with the GMW's Floyd, you can go nuts.
